Virginia Rose Maul

Virginia Rose Maul, 97, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away on Sept. 2, 2014, at Love & Care Assisted Living Facility.

She was born April 27, 1917, in Parkersburg, W.Va., a daughter of the late Calvin Carol Stephens and Margaret Powell. She was retired from Corning Glass, and was formerly employed by Viscose in Parkersburg.

Virginia, lovingly known as “Granny” to all who knew her, was the first house mother to the men’s dormitory at Ohio Valley University (OVU). She was a charter member of the OVU Stepping Stones and instrumental in bringing this into fruition from the beginning. She also volunteered at Love & Care since 1982. Virginia attended Lubeck Church of Christ, as well as North End and Camden Avenue.

She is survived by two sons, Dr. Stephen (Patricia) Maul, PhD, of Worthington, Pa., and Alan (Lee Ann) Maul of Parkersburg; six grandchildren, Richard Maul of Parkersburg, Sheryl A. (Tim) Barker of Vienna, W.Va., Tracy McNemar of Newport, N.C.; Lydia (Eric) Forkner of Harrisburg, Pa.; Deborah (Clem) Rosenberger of Kittanning, Pa. and Rachel (Sam) Garner of Tupelo, Miss.; 15 great grandchildren, Tiffani, Danyell, Stephen, Kevin, Tatum, Airyell, Chancelor, Teran, Loryell, Tabithia, James, Elizabeth, Nathan, Caden, and Adeline; two step-great grandchildren, Jacob and Alyssa, and one great-great grandchild, Kylie Ann. Virginia also leaves behind a special friend, Gidgett Vandelinde.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Bailey” Maul; two brothers, Calvin “Red” Stephens and Robert Stephens; and four sisters, Mildred Hewitt, Lillian Stephens, Margaret Brilliant, and Helen Kimes.

Services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 2 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg, W.Va., with interment in Parkersburg Memorial Gardens and Steve Fuch and Van Sprague officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, Sept. 6, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The family wishes to thank Love & Care, as well as all the caregivers that cared for Granny over the last eight years, especially those of the last six months.
