Vivian June Gibson died Aug. 29, 2014, at her Market Street home.
Born in St. Marys, W.Va., to Franklin and Ethel Robinson Schauwecker she grew up in Parkersburg and graduated from PHS, Class of 1939. During World War II she worked at the Pentagon.
After the war she met and married Warren Chase Gibson, her husband of 61 years. She loved working and had many interesting jobs as church secretary at First Presbyterian, secretary for Bill Brown, Mayor of Parkersburg, and a decorator for many years at Wiley Hicks Furniture Galleries.
June and Warren loved to travel, having visited 49 of the 50 states and took an eight-month trek over Europe. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, Tiffany and Adam. She also loved chocolates, music, tending her flowers, collecting bears and anything Western. She had eight pairs of cowboy boots. She was also a member of Alpha Iota Sorority – Parkersburg Mu Gamma Chapter, Daughters of the American Pioneers – Centennial Chapter and a charter member of the Blennerhassett Historical Foundation – Friends of the Blennerhassetts.
She is survived by her son, David Chase Gibson; sister, Rosemary Stover; niece, Sharon Ann Duesterhaus; nephew, Dr. Mark E. Stover; beloved grandchildren, Tiffany Lea and Adam Chase Gibson; and special friends, Barbara A. Kight, Gladys Watson and Suzie Stephens.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Chase Gibson.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Michael Seely officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the church.
