Richard Allen Prim

Richard Allen Prim, beloved husband, father and grandfather closed this chapter of his life on Aug. 21, 2014.

Richard was born on June 20, 1934, in Fairmont, W.Va.

He worked as a boiler maker for many years, retiring from Boiler Makers Local 667 in 1995, and settling in Newport, Ohio, with his wife of 56 years, Garnett (Naylor) Prim.

Richard was preceded in death by his father, Robert D. Prim; mother, Hazel P. McCue. He is survived by his wife, Garnett; children, Kandi Williams of Bunker Hill, W.Va., Cindy (Scott) Kanemura of Yuma, Ariz., Darrell (Debbie) Prim of Marietta, Penny (Barry) Ghee of Smyrna, Tenn., and Robert (Terri) Prim of Clarington, Ohio; two sisters, Francis Penelope (Charles) Frew of Oakridge, Tenn., and Jean Ann (Jim) Bergman of Rock Hill, S.C. He leaves behind 11 devoted grandchildren, as well as 13 great-grandchildren, each of whom have been touched by his wit and devotion.

Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a Combat Medic with the 11th Airborne Division during the Korean Conflict. He was also a talented welder, designing and making numerous wrought iron creations for family and friends. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him and loved him.

The family will be following his wishes and donating his body to the West Virginia University School of Medicine. Richard was an avid WVU fan all his life. A private memorial will be held in the near future.
