Parkersburg plans urban deer harvest

PARKERSBURG – The City of Parkersburg will be accepting applications for the Urban Deer Management Program, which will run Sept. 6 to Dec. 31 in Johnson T. Janes Park in Parkersburg.

Applications can be obtained at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Parkersburg Police Department’s firing range on Keever Street in Parkersburg.

A total of 30 permits will be issued on a first-come first-served basis. A valid West Virginia hunting license will be required, with a proficiency permit provided by the city of Parkersburg upon satisfactory completion of a proficiency test for first-time participants.

Applicants who have successfully completed the proficiency test in previous years will be exempt from re-testing.

The proficiency test will be conducted at the firing range on Keever Street, near the Memorial Bridge. Testing dates are 5-7 p.m. Aug. 12 and 14. The test will consist of shooting five arrows at a target 20 yards, at ground level, with four required to be in the kill zone of the target.
