Ex-‘Buckwild’ cast member arrested in Rockport
PARKERSBURG – A former cast member of MTV’s controversial show “Buckwild” was arrested Sunday in Rockport.
Ashley Nichole Whitt, 22, of Charleston, was charged with grand larceny auto, along with 34-year-old Zanesville resident Wade Robert Mitchell. The two were arrested by Wood County Sheriff’s deputies at the Rockport General Store after being located there with a trailer and UTV all-terrain vehicle reported stolen from a Williamstown hotel, Chief Deputy Shawn Graham said.
Whitt and Mitchell reportedly told police they had been asked to tow the trailer by another individual, whose name they did not provide. Graham said they did not have the permission of the owner, who was alerted to the theft by a tracking device.
The suspects were arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court, with bond set at $50,000. Whitt posted her bond, but Mitchell remains in custody at the North Central Regional Jail, Graham said.
“Buckwild,” a show in the “Jersey Shore” mold set in West Virginia, aired on MTV in 2013. It was criticized by U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and others for reinforcing negative stereotypes about the Mountain State.
The network made the decision not to film a second season after cast member Shane Gandee died in an accident.
