Betty L. Lantz Hall

Betty L. Lantz Hall, passed away July 5, 2014, at her residence, in Bridgeport, W.Va.

Betty was born Aug. 7, 1933, at her family home on Burton Run, Pennsboro, W.Va. She was the last of 11 children, born to Marsh and Della Lantz.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Kenneth Lantz, Ralph “Bill” Lantz, James “Jim” Lantz and Marsh Lantz; and six sisters, Hattie Kaltenecker, Winnie Atkinson, Mary Meiler, Genevieve Smith, and twins, Vaughn Virden and Vera Howard Rieser. Betty is survived by husband, Bob; two daughters, Cindy (Jerry) and Kim (Mark); two granddaughters, April (Megan) and Ashleigh (fiance, Michael); and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Betty graduated from Pennsboro High School in 1952. She began her career in music at G.C. Murphy’s in Parkersburg, as manager of the music department. She also hosted shows on radio (WPAR) and television (WTAP). After marrying Bob on June 2, 1956, in Parkersburg, they lived in Clarksburg. Once Cindy was born, they moved to Bridgeport, then to Shinnston, and back to Bridgeport, where Kim was born. Betty was a member of Bridgeport United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher. She also worked from home as “Nana” to Amber Mellott and Jason Preston, thereby gaining two more families. Betty and Bob were employed at Bridgeport Skateworld where Betty was a DJ and skating instructor. This allowed her to do two things she loved: playing music and roller skating.

She brightened many lives and will be sorely missed.

Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m., Aug. 23, at McCullough Funeral Home, Pennsboro.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mary Babb-Randolph Cancer Center, P.O. Box 9300, Morgantown, WV 26506-9300.
