Cecil D. McCutcheon
Cecil D. (“C. D.”) McCutcheon, a longtime resident of Parkersburg, died June 25, 2014, at Camden Clark Medical Center.
He was the son of Elisha Orville McCutcheon and Sarah Burch McCutcheon. He was born in Wirt County, W.Va., on Aug. 7, 1924, and graduated from Wirt County High School in 1942.
Cecil worked for over 32 years for DuPont at the Washington Works plant. He served his country with distinction as a member of the 868th bombardment squadron (“the Snoopers”), Thirteenth Air Force. He flew numerous combat missions in the Pacific Theater during World War II, and was twice awarded the Bronze Star for his service. He was a faithful Christian, serving for many years as an elder of the Lynn St. Church of Christ, and also attended Camden Avenue Church of Christ and Sunrise Church of Christ.
He is survived by his son, Jay Philip McCutcheon (Judith); daughter, Beth McCutcheon Carley (John); and grandchildren, Joseph Everly McCutcheon, Sara Joyce McCutcheon and Megan Rose Carley. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Virginia F. McCutcheon; his brother, Elisha Orville McCutcheon Jr.; and his sister, Mary Frances Bibbee.
Services will be held 11 a.m. today at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. today.
