VIENNA – Books-A-Million opened Thursday at the Grand Central Mall.

The chain is among the nation’s leading book retailers and is located at the north end of the mall concourse next to Sears. The store is more than 3,500 square feet, according to mall Marketing Director Katrina Stephens.

“We are excited to open our new store in Vienna, and hope to fulfill the needs of the community,” said Terrance G. Finley, chief executive officer and president of Books-A-Million. “We are invested in our communities and we know our new customers will enjoy finding the best in books, toys, and tech at our new location.”

Books-A-Million also sells magazines, pop culture gift items, T-shirts and accessories.

A children’s section features kid’s books, learning resources, toys, and games. The new Books-A-Million location will carry Nook e-readers and other electronic accessories.

“This has been a long time coming, and we are so excited that we are finally able to welcome Books-A-Million to our mall family,” Stephens said. “We receive positive feedback on a daily basis, and we know our shoppers are excited to have them here.”

Residents who are new Books-A-Million patrons are encouraged to register for the Millionaire’s Club where members save 40 percent off bestsellers, 20 percent off hundreds of items throughout the store and 10 percent off most items every day. The Vienna store will have its first One Day Sale for these Millionaire Club card holders on June 21, offering members up to 20 percent off most items in the store.

The store also is holding a Summer Book Drive to benefit Woody County Schools through July 5.

Customers can participate by purchasing a new book or item from the school’s wish list. Books-A-Million also offers discount programs for teachers, community organizations and community fundraising opportunities.

Books-A-Million announced earlier this year it would locate at the mall. Construction started in April.

Books-A-Million is the first national book store to open in the mall in nearly two years after Borders closed in 2012.

People have been eager for a retail book seller to return to the area. When the store opened Thursday, there was a crowd of people waiting, Stephens said.

”There was around 20 people outside the store waiting,” Stephens said. ”Within the first 20 minutes, they had around 50 people in there.”

Books-A-Million operates 258 stores in 33 states under the names Books-A-Million, Books & Co. and 2nd & Charles, and traditional bookstores under the names Bookland and Books-A-Million.

The location will offers discount programs for teachers and community organizations as well as community fundraising opportunities.
