South boys establish OVAC tennis lead
WHEELING – The boys tennis team from Parkersburg South made a strong showing on the first of four days of the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Meet on Monday.
With all matches played at the Wheeling Park tennis bubble, the Patriots captured one first place and two runner-up efforts to close out the day with a league high 10 points.
Morgantown follows in second place at seven points, while John Marshall, Linsly and Madonna are tied for third place at four points.
Turning in a first-place finish for South was the No. 3 doubles team of Franklin Miller and Evan Fleak, who defeated Steubenville’s Annie Nehrbas and Dominic DiCarlo 8-5 in the final match.
At No. 1 doubles, South’s Grant Tebay and Garrett Dailey finished runner-up after losing to John Marshall’s Hayden Blazer and Tyler Keller in the finals.
At No. 2 doubles, South’s Camilo Sarzosa and Alexander Herring also took second following an 8-3 defeat to Morgantown’s Steven Wu and Adam McKnight in the finals.
The boys singles competition is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday at either West Liberty University or the Wheeling Park tennis bubble.
Girls competition kicks off at 8:30 a.m. today with the doubles brackets.
