Ready for Market training series will begin Tuesday
SPENCER – The free Ready for Market training series will begin 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Roane County High School Vo-Ag Department.
Tuesday’s class will discuss how to begin direct marketing of farm products and will feature state experts on the rules and regulations regarding the sale of agricultural products.
Keynote speakers are Teresa Halloran, West Virginia Department of Agriculture marketing specialist of foods, and Perry Ferguson, a meat and poultry inspector who has worked with other groups to establish direct marketing plans for meat producers. They will address the requirements that agricultural producers must meet to sell products directly to consumers.
Other speakers will address the local demand for produce, meats and other farm products in the region.
“The demand for safe, fresh affordable foods is at an all-time high,” local WVU Extension Agent Brandy Brabham said.
The workshops are provided by the Mid-Ohio Valley Edibles regional growers association, WVU Extension Service, and Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education.
Pre-registration for each training date is requested. Binders or flash drives with all training materials will be provided to participants.
To pre-register for Tuesday’s training, call the WVU-Roane County Extension Office at 304-927-0975 by Monday. Pre-registration is not required for admission, but it helps provide for hand-outs and adequate seating arrangements.
