Local pharmacist nominated for award

BELPRE – A pharmacist at Fruth Pharmacy in Belpre has been nominated as Pharmacist of the Year for 2013.

Pharmacist Chris Border was chosen as one of 12 nominees from more than 700 employees.

Border, the son of longtime Parkersburg area pharmacist Larry Border, never intended to follow in his father’s footsteps. He started in an engineering major at college where a professor encouraged Border to take a job as a pharmacy technician because of his math and science skills.

After working as a technician, Border developed his own love of the pharmacy profession and applied to West Virginia University School of Pharmacy. He has been employed by Fruth Pharmacy for more than three years.

“My father was a great pharmacist, but more importantly, he was a great man. He never told me to be a pharmacist; he just told me to grow up and do something with my life,” Border said. “It just so happened I fell into the same profession.”

Employee of the Year awards are given in four categories each to Fruth Pharmacy employees: Technician of the Year, Manager of the Year, Pharmacist of the Year, and Associate of the Year. Employees were nominated by their peers and customers.

“We celebrate the loyalty of employees who have reached a landmark year in their career,” Lynne Fruth, president of Fruth Pharmacy, said. “We also recognize those who made a significant contribution to the success of the company and those whose kindness and compassion have made difficult days a little easier for our customers.”
