Advantage Bank to close Pike St. branch

MARIETTA – The Advantage Bank branch in the Lafayette Plaza on Pike Street in Marietta is expected to be closed and consolidated with the current Advantage Bank office on Third Street by early March.

“The two branches are located too close together. All of the Advantage Banks less than 2.27 miles apart are being consolidated,” said Maureen Brown, senior vice president and director of public relations for Huntington Bank.

Columbus-based Huntington Bancshares is in the process of acquiring Camco Financial Corporation, parent company of Cambridge-based Advantage Bank.

“Once the transaction is completed with Camco, the Advantage Bank in Marietta will be changed to Huntington Bank,” Brown said. “We’re looking for that acquisition to be completed toward the end of February or early March.”

Huntington Bancshares originally announced plans for the acquisition of Camco in October. The $97 million deal includes 22 Advantage Bank branch offices and approximately 55,000 customers in Southeast Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky.

Brown did not know the number of employees who currently work at the Marietta Advantage Bank offices, but said workers are being offered positions at other Huntington Bank offices.

“We’re still in the process of finding jobs for all Advantage Bank employees who will be impacted by the change, and have so far offered 100 positions,” she said. “We also went the extra mile to see if there were positions open at other banks within the local area that could be filled by employees from Advantage Bank.”

Brown said Huntington Bancshares is expanding its presence in the three states.

“We’re very interested in growing in those areas,” she said, noting Huntington’s overall customer base has increased from 900,000 in 2010 to 1.35 million currently.

The company has a total of 700 bank branches located in Ohio, West Virginia, Michigan, Indianapolis, Ind., and Washington, Pa., Brown said.

She said once the Lafayette Plaza Advantage Bank branch is vacated, that property will be put up for sale.
