Patrick J. McDonough

Patrick J. McDonough of Chevy Chase, Md., died Nov. 10, 2013. He was 70 years old.

Patrick was born Oct. 25, 1943, in Parkersburg, W.Va., the son of the late C. Edward and Helen (Park) McDonough.

Patrick’s early education occurred in the Parkersburg Catholic School System. He continued his higher education at The Pontifical College Josephinum, Catholic University and American University. Patrick taught high school religion at St. Anthony’s Catholic High School in Washington, D.C., and coached junior varsity basketball during the period John Thompson, Sr. was head coach. He then began a career in government, first working for the U.S. House of Representatives where he rose to the position of Chief of Publications and Distributions. He subsequently served the Clinton administration in the U. S. Department of Agriculture until his retirement. Patrick was a long time member of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Washington, D.C, a proud member of The Society of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick in the City of New York, and an avid Georgetown University Basketball fan.

Patrick was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Helen Anne McDonough. Surviving are one brother, Edward P. McDonough and his spouse Kathy G. Eddy; and two nephews, C. Edward McDonough and his spouse Andrea, and Brian D. McDonough and his spouse Erin, and their two children, Madigan and Edward.

Roman Catholic Mass of celebration of Patrick’s life will be held at St. Margaret Mary Church, Parkersburg, at 10 o’clock in the morning on Nov. 18, 2013, followed by his burial at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. The Mass will be concelebrated by Rev. Msgr. Joseph Peterson, Rev. Robert Park and Rev. Andy Switzer.
