Robert A. Dickerson, Sr.

Robert A. Dickerson, Sr., 78, of Parkersburg, passed away Nov. 9, 2013, at Camden Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus.

He was born May 2, 1935, in Wirt County, W.Va., a son of the late John Dickerson and Alice Reynolds Dickerson Linger.

Bob had proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1952 thru 1956. He retired from DuPont Washington Works in 1979 after 22 years with the company. Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing. He volunteered with the Department of Natural Resources for 9 years and taught hunting safety and boating safety classes. In retirement, he learned leather crafting and became very skilled with leather. He was a member of Mt. Olivet Masonic Lodge #3 and the Mullen Memorial Baptist Church.

Bob is survived by his wife of 58 years, Anna Madine Williams Dickerson; sons, Robert A. Dickerson, Jr. and wife Sharon, and Barry C. Dickerson and wife Mary Anne; daughter, Pamela F. Hartline; four grandchildren, Valerie Hatcher and husband Jeremy, Keith Dickerson, Elizabeth Dickerson and Matthew Hartline; two great-granddaughters, Brylee and Sydney Hatcher; five sisters, Margaret Taylor, Dorothy Cain, Sarah Haines and husband Jim, Genevieve Harris and Georgia Jones; one brother, Luke Dickerson and wife Margot; sister-in-law, Karen Dickerson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Dickerson.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Kent Lowther officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens with graveside rites by Mt. Olivet Masonic Lodge #3. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today, and from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday prior to the service.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made in Bob’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association or charity of the donor’s choice.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff at the Willows who provided wonderful care during Bob’s stay there.
