Denver G. Reed
Denver G. Reed, 94, of Parkersburg, died Sept. 14, 2013, at Camden Clark Medical Center.
He was born April 14, 1919, in Salem, W.Va., a son of the late Cecil G. and Lottie B. Reed.
Denver was a 1937 graduate of Salem High School and attended Salem College. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the European Theatre. On Nov. 2, 1944, during an important river-crossing, Sgt. Reed voluntarily and at great risk to his life, laid wire communications over a mile of hazardous terrain being subjected to intense enemy artillery fire. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his actions above and beyond the call of duty reflecting the highest credit on himself and the armed forces of the United States. He was a member of Parkview United Methodist Church for over 50 years where he served in various capacities. He enjoyed golfing with his friends and gardening.
He is survived by two sons, Arthur (Yolanda) Reed of Flower Mound, Texas, and Jeffrey Reed of Vienna; three grandchildren, Jason Reed of California, Daniel Reed of Flower Mound, Texas, and Jennifer Reed of Vienna, W.Va.; and two brothers, Charles Reed and William (Betty) Reed, both of Salem, W.Va.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lenore Davis Reed; one brother, Robert Reed; and one sister, Dorothy Reed Holtz.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Kenneth Nolan officiating. Burial will follow at K of P Cemetery in Salem, W.Va. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. and Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
