Robert ‘Larry’ Hattman

Robert “Larry” Hattman, 70, of Parkersburg, passed away Sept. 1, 2013, at Camden Clark Medical Center, St. Joseph’s Campus.

He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on July 8, 1943, son of the John Leonard and Mary Eileen Guckerk Hattman.

“Larry” graduated from Parkersburg Catholic in 1961 and received his bachelor and master’s degrees from Marshall. He had worked as a high school teacher and lastly as a guidance counselor at Parkersburg High School, retiring in 2011 after 45 years working in education. He enjoyed sports and coaching. He was a pitcher for Parkersburg Catholic and for American Legion Post 15 ball teams while in high school. He continued pitching while at Marshall in 1961-62. He served as baseball and basketball coach from 1965-1976 for Parkersburg Catholic, and the highlight of that was the 1970 baseball team winning the Catholic State title. He had also coached the Parkersburg YMCA swim team for many years.

“Larry” is survived by three children, Suzetta Farell and Greg of Hendersonville, Tenn., Annissa Armstrong and John of Simpsonville, S.C., and Patrick Hattman of Parkersburg; five grandchildren, Eric, Megan and Allison Farell and Matthew and Christopher Armstrong; and three brothers, John William Hattman of Wheeling and Michael Robert Hattman and Richard Thomas Hattman, both of Parkersburg.

In addition to his parents, “Larry” was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Sue Stewart Hattman in 2010, and son, David Hattman in 2005.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made in “Larry’s” memory to Parkersburg High School Stadium Field Committee, 2101 Dudley Ave., Parkersburg, WV 26101.
