Wirt County Fair opens Wednesday

ELIZABETH – The annual Wirt County Fair will be Wednesday through Saturday at Camp Barbe 4-H Camp along West Virginia 14 in Wirt County, featuring four days of entertainment, activities, track events, carnival rides and other attractions.

The fair will run from 9 a.m.-11 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and from 8 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $6 a person, with children ages 2 and under admitted free. Season tickets are $20.

Admission includes carnival rides and entertainment. Senior Citizens Day is Thursday with admission at $3 for seniors until 6 p.m.

The carnival hours will be 4-11 p.m. for the first three days and on Saturday from 1-5 p.m. and 6-11 p.m.

This year’s headlining act will be The Davisson Brothers Band, who will perform at 8 p.m. Thursday.

Based in Clarksburg, W.Va., the band blends country, southern rock and bluegrass to create a distinctive sound captured in their first single, “Big City Hillbilly.” The sound, combined with the band’s talent and energy, has gained a loyal fan base all over the eastern U.S.

The band features brothers Chris and Donnie Davisson, on lead guitar/slide guitar and lead vocals/rhythm guitar respectively, and their cousin Sammy Davisson, on bass and vocals.

They are joined by childhood friend, Aaron Regester, on drums.

The annual Wirt County Fair Talent Show will be 8 p.m. Friday for potential singers. The grand prize is $300, a three-hour recording session and a one-hour photo shoot. Judges will narrow the field down to the top five acts, and then it is up to the audience.

Mineral Wells resident Matt Enik will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday on the Wirt County Fair stage.

Enik learned to play guitar around the age of 11, and as he progressed into his teens, he and a long-time friend began learning old songs, going on to form local group South of The River. In 2011, he left that band and has been performing with other local musicians over the last couple of years.

He moved to Nashville to attend Belmont University and broaden his opportunities as a singer and songwriter. He has released a solo project “Natural – The EP” and has released his first single, “A Natural.”
