Crash leads to burglary arrests

PARKERSBURG – Two people were charged with burglary Wednesday morning after a hit and run accident where the victim detained them, the Parkersburg Police Department said.

Police were dispatched at 7 a.m. to 2512 22nd Ave. on a call for a burglary that happened overnight, department spokesman Sgt. Greg Collins said.

While officers investigated the burglary, a 911 call was made about a hit and run accident near West Virginia 95 and Division Street, Collins said. The suspect vehicle left the scene and was followed and eventually detained by the victim near Pike Street and Gihon Road, Collins said.

Responding officers found property inside the car that was suspected to be stolen, he said. Upon further examination of the property, supported by the victim’s identification of the items, it was determined the items were taken from 2512 22nd Ave., Collins said.

Alexander Lane Davies, 20, 316 36th St., Vienna, and Matthew Allen Altizer, 20, 2215 Highland Road, Parkersburg, were charged with felony burglary. Davies also was charged with leaving the scene of an accident.

Davies was arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court where he failed to post bond of $30,500. He was remanded to the North Central Regional Jail, Collins said.

Altizer was also remanded to the regional jail after failing to post bond of $25,000, Collins said.

Detectives and the crime scene technician are processing evidence and the recovered items, Collins said. The estimated value of the property stolen from the home is more than $4,300, he said.
