Health care decisions unacceptable

It never fails to amaze me how the “conservatives” want less government when it comes to the EPA, guns, bank regulation and President Obama’s health care plan, to name a few, but when it comes to women’s health care, they want to be right in the examining room with us and our doctors because evidently we are not capable of making our own health care decisions.

Most Republicans as well as a few misguided Democrats want to restrict or do away with women’s access to family-planning clinics and they even go so far as wanting doctors to disseminate inaccurate information and do procedures that are not in the best interests of their women patients. When Congress starts making intrusive laws that interfere with the doctor-patient relationship and go so far as to adversely affect the health of women, it’s time the American Medical Association, doctors, nurses and patients start pushing back!

Through Obamacare, states can expand Medicaid to cover more families who cannot afford and who don’t have health care but it looks like Ohio will opt out of this important provision and Ohio continues its “war on women” by planning to cut back on the funding for Planned Parenthood clinics. Obamacare includes family-planning – making sure that women have access to contraception to plan only the number of children they can adequately care for. Since half of the children born in this country are born into poverty, I would think it would be a state and federal priority to lessen the cost to government by providing contraceptives to those that want them.

When we vote for people that hold extreme views on the left or the right and they tell us they will not compromise and when they get into office where nothing gets done or extreme measures are put into law, I guess we get what we deserve. But it’s time that more people speak up and let our representatives in Congress and our governor know that what they are doing is unacceptable.
