Marietta man faces three counts of rape

MARIETTA – A Marietta man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly raping three juvenile family members.

Roger L. Morrow Jr., 35, of 780 Greene St. admitted to engaging in various acts of sexual intercourse with the three young girls, according to a statement of facts from the Marietta Police Department.

Morrow was arrested on three counts of rape, each a felony of the first degree. Each count carries a maximum penalty of 11 years in prison.

The previous day, an allegation of sexual abuse against Morrow had been anonymously called into Washington County Children Services and the three children, ages 8,10 and 11, had been removed from contact with Morrow.

The three children were interviewed separately at the WCCS bureau by Marietta police officer Katie Warden and Dale Chidester, a WCCS employee.

The first victim indicated that Morrow had engaged in intercourse with her and sodomized her on several occasions, officials said.

“(She) was unable to get an exact date but stated that it occurred at her residence sometime from 2012 though March of 2013,” read the statement of facts.

The second victim gave a similar account of abuse, officials said. The third victim did not disclose any specific abuses, saying only that Morrow had done “bad touches” on her.

Morrow waived his Miranda rights and corroborated the girls accounts, said Capt. Jeff Waite of the Marietta Police Department.

“He basically said it happened,” he said.

According to the report, Morrow told Warden the incidents of rape had been ongoing over several months.

Morrow said he had engaged in sex with the first two victims “three to four times each” and with the third “one or two times,” officials said.

“The defendant stated that he knew it was wrong to touch them and did not know why he had done it,” read the statement.

The next step will be a preliminary hearing in Marietta Municipal Court, unless that hearing is waived, said Waite. If enough evidence is found to go forward, the case will likely be bound over to Washington County Common Pleas Court for possible indictment by a grand jury.

Morrow is being held at the Washington County Jail on a $300,000 bond – $100,000 for each count of rape.
