Burdette to speak at commencement
PARKERSBURG – The secretary of the West Virginia Department of Commerce will deliver the National College commencement address at 6:30 p.m. April 25 at the Parkersburg Art Center.
Secretary Keith Burdette was appointed in December 2010 by Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin.
Burdette began his public service when he was elected to the first of two terms in the West Virginia House of Delegates. In 1982, Burdette was elected to the West Virginia State Senate. In 1989, he was elected President of the State Senate at the age of 34, the youngest Senate President in the state’s history.
He served under Gov. Bob Wise for three years as director of policy and legislative relations. In 2003, he formed the Burdette Group Consulting firm.
In November 2004, he became president of the Area Roundtable, the umbrella organization for all development activities in Wood County including the Wood County Development Authority and the Parkersburg-Wood County Development Corporation.
