Cisar gets 800th win

SISSONVILLE -Magnolia High School baseball coach Dave Cisar accomplished a major milestone on Saturday.

When the Blue Eagles completed a doubleheader sweeep by downing Valley Fayette, 5-2, in the second game, Cisar recorded the 800th win of his career.

Cisar, in his 40th season at the Magnolia helm, becomes only the third coach in West Virginia high school baseball history to achieve such a lofty accomplishment, joining John Lowery of Jefferson High School and Bob Montgomery of John Marshall in the 800-win club.

Magnolia played a pair of games at Sissonville on Saturday, downing the host Tigers, 11-4, in the opener, behind a complete game performance from pitcher Zach Willhoite. The Blue Eagles put the game away early, scoring six times in the second inning and adding five more in the fourth frame. Tanner Hanna had four of Magnolia’s 14 hits.

With win No. 799 secure, Cisar and his troopts then took on a strong Valley Fayette team, which entered the game with an 8-2 mark. Valley jumped on top 2-0 after 2 innings, but three Magnolia runs in the third were all pitcher Kyle Elliott would need as he limited Valley to six hits in a 5-2 win. Willhoite had a pair of RBIs in the win.

Cisar will try to add to his impressive total on Monday when the Blue Eagles travel to Clay-Battelle.
