Minnie Hamilton looks to Grantsville
GRANTSVILLE – Minnie Hamilton has been a name synonymous with health care in Calhoun County for 80 years since Miss Minnie Hamilton first became county school nurse in 1933.
The Minnie Hamilton Health System continues the tradition by providing high quality, compassionate medical care to Grantsville, Glenville and surrounding communities, officials said.
With a new leadership team in place and new services available, like pulmonary rehabilitation, which is now being offered in Grantsville, hospital officials want to make Minnie Hamilton a place where people come to get services rather than having to travel to Charleston or Parkersburg.
The hospital’s staff’s commitment to improving the health of the community shows in everything they do, officials said.
At Minnie Hamilton, patients will find the staff’s dedication and knowledge to the services provided will make their stay or visit as comfortable and convenient as possible, they added.
Steve Whited became chief executive officer in May 2012 and has been working with the board of directors, the senior management team and the facility’s staff to map out a clear direction for the future, hospital officials said.
“A strategic plan is being established which sets specific goals to not only improve patient care, but continue to grow and modernize to meet the challenges that the changes in the health care system will bring,” Whited said.
“In this plan there are guiding principles that are used to categorize the necessary elements to make a successful plan.
“These ‘pillars’ are finance, growth, people, service, quality and patient safety and community. By using these pillars, we can reach our goals in every aspect of our business.”
Through finance, hospital officials plan to improve the billing processes; improve collections; reduce rebilling or rejections due to incomplete information; increasing staff and leadership awareness of financial implications of work; and to maximize use of all financial technology.
Through growth, officials plan to ensure adequate facilities to conduct services and ensure that Minnie Hamilton uses the most current technology available.
Through people, officials will improve communications throughout the hospital; develop employee ownership; staff development; doing provider/staff recruitment; and use the employee review board.
Through service, officials will implement core value training; increase employee satisfaction; increase patient satisfaction; and increase provider satisfaction.
Through quality and patient safety, hospital officials want to improve deficiencies identified through Minnie Hamilton’s quality improvement processes; improve compliance with Patient Safety Indicators; improve Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems Scores; and maintain and advance the National Committee for Quality Assurance Certification.
Through the community, hospital officials officials want to increase its outreach in the community; increase vaccinations; improve the awareness of available services; increase education; and increase the participation in activities and programs around the area.
The facility has 19 physicans, physcian assistants, nurse practioners and more on staff covering medical, dental needs, emergency care, pediatrics, cardiopulmonary care, respiratory therapy, pulmonary rehabilitation, physical therapy and radiology. The facility also operates a 16 slice CT Scan/Ultrasound.
Minnie Hamilton also offers inpatient services, outpatient services, social services, clinic services, daycare services, school based health centers, dental services, a Glenville office to provide services to Gilmer County and surrounding areas and providing Radiology Services to the Coplin Clinic in Elizabeth.
