Jan Gainer, a Parkersburg resident, passed away unexpectedly on March 2, 2013.
Jan was born July 29, 1952 in Belpre, Ohio. She grew up in Belpre, and graduated from Belpre High in 1970. She received an Associate’s degree from Hocking Technical College. She also attended Ohio University and Nelsonville College.
After college, Jan traveled the country for several years living in Florida, California and Ohio, returning home to handle all the administrative responsibilities and helping run the daily operation for Little Caesars Pizza for 22 years.
In addition, she was a partner in “The Par 500” on Emerson Avenue for over 12 years. Considered a natural in business, she immersed herself in whatever she did, worked tirelessly and was a very sharp businesswoman. Jan always brought a humorous, pragmatic and sensitive approach to help resolve business or personal issues.
Jan was a beautiful, cheerful, upbeat person who was driven in life by the love of her family and friends. A very giving, thoughtful person, she always put the well-being of others ahead of her own personal comfort. She had many interests in life, with the most important being in the company of friends and family. She especially loved hanging out on the patio at the Blennerhassett with friends or family. She looked forward to relaxing with her life partner, Rick McCaffery, and her pets, Sky and Callie, in her spare time.
Jan is survived by her mother Helen Fletcher Gainer; brother and sisters Stephen P. Gainer, Linda S. Gainer Dillon (Henry), Sharon K. Gainer Reuter; her nieces and nephews Vicki Gainer Williamson (James), Tamara Gainer Thompson (James), Mark A. Gainer (Lori) and Randall D. Gainer, Lura Dillon O’Brien, Erika Dillon Kutrieb (Benson), Shannon Dillon Jeff Gainer (Tessa), Tina Gainer Reiter (Dan) James Gainer, J.R. Sindledecker, Nicole Barnes
She was predeceased by her brother Alan E. “Pete” Gainer and her father Harland Paul Gainer. Jan also had several great and great, great nieces and nephews. Jan is also survived by her fiance, best friend and business partner of 23 years, Rick McCaffery.
Family and friends will start to gather at noon March 30, for a Memorial service that will begin at 2 p.m. at the Leavitt Funeral Home, 801 Victor Street, Belpre Ohio.
