Phillips aids Ohio State to runner-up finish in relay event
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Former Parkersburg High School standout Tim Phillips and his teammates on the Ohio State University swim team caught a bit of a break during the second day of the Big Ten Championships on Thursday.
Phillips swam the butterfly leg of the 400 medley relay which touched the wall in fourth place. However, runner-up Indiana and third-place Penn State were both disqualified which bumped up the Buckeyes two spots just behind first-place Michigan.
Phillips turned in a split of 45.62 seconds as Ohio State finished in a time of 3:08.71.
Phillips, a junior competing for Ohio State, also qualified for the final of the 200 individual medley with the 12th fastest time (1:46.21) but slipped back to 16th in the ‘B’ final.
Phillips continues his quest at the Big Ten Championships today in the 100 butterfly and the 200 freestyle relay.
In terms of the team standings, Michigan is dominating the meet with 316 points, while Indiana follows at 217. Ohio State sits in third place at 170 points.
