Deborah L. Fast

Deborah Lynn Fast, 58, of Morgantown, W.Va., died Feb. 17, 2013, in Exton, Pa., of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, 719 Flinn St., Ravenswood, W.Va.

Born on Dec. 19, 1954, in Charleston, W.Va., to Robert L. and Mary Lee Warner Fast, Deborah was raised in Ravenswood, W.Va. She was valedictorian of Ravenswood High School class of 1973. In 1977, she earned a BA degree in journalism from West Virginia University. Deborah worked at the university for 34 years, most recently as a graphic designer.

Deborah had a lively intellectual curiosity. She was an avid reader and particularly enjoyed mysteries. Deborah loved dogs and she loved the natural world. During her free time, she combined these interests spending many satisfying hours walking her dog and exploring the Mon River Rail Trail System. She delighted in photographing and researching the plants she found along the trail, especially wildflowers and ferns, carefully documenting these things in a journal.

She is survived by her mother, Mary Lee Fast of Ravenswood, W.Va.; sisters, Cathy Fast Heald and her husband, Don, of Exton, Pa., and Becky Fast Linton and her husband, Paul, of Lexington, Mass.; one niece and two nephews.
