Parkersburg man declared missing
MARIETTA – A Parkersburg man has been officially declared missing after last being seen in Marietta Feb. 13.
Police officially listed Carl Austin Travis, 22, who is in the Navy, as missing Friday after he failed to report for duty aboard his ship Friday morning.
“He was supposed to report to his ship the Halliburton, stationed out of Jacksonville Fla., at 7 a.m. Friday,” said Capt. Jeff Waite of the Marietta Police Department.
Family members had first been in contact with the Marietta Police Department Tuesday to report a prolonged period of no contact with Travis.
“We know that Travis’s last day on the boat was Feb. 9 and he arrived in Marietta on the 12th,” said Waite.
After arriving in Marietta, Travis spent the night at The Lafayette Hotel in downtown Marietta.
“The last place we can trace Travis to is The Lafayette Hotel. We can’t account for his whereabouts after that,” said Waite.
Waite says his officers are working on retracing Travis’s steps.
“We have been trying to track where he has been, but as of right now we really don’t have any substantial leads,” he said.
Travis is 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighs 140 pounds and has brown hair with blue eyes.
The Marietta Police Department would like anyone who has any information regarding Travis’s location to contact them at 373-4141.
