Whipple man attacked by bull
WHIPPLE – A Whipple resident was in critical condition at Marietta Memorial Hospital Monday evening after being trampled by his bull during an on-site veterinarian visit.
The Fearing Township Volunteer Fire Department responded around 2 p.m. to 915 Whipple Run Road, the home of 69-year-old Dale Gerken.
“He was working with the vet and trying to get the bull in a head chute for the vet to check him,” said Fearing Volunteer EMT Ryan Moore.
The head chute is used to steady an animal for examination, he said.
Moore did not know the nature of the veterinarian visit, but said Gerken and the bull were inside a barn when Gerken was knocked down and trampled by the bull.
The man was responsive and talking to first responders on the scene, he said.
Gerken was being treated in the Marietta Memorial Hospital emergency room and was listed in critical condition Monday evening, said Jennifer Offenberger, director of marketing and public relations for the Memorial Health System.
