Bertie Lue (Nicholson) Ward

Bertie Lue (Nicholson) Ward, 83, of Parkersburg, passed away Feb. 2, 2013, at the Arbors of Marietta.

She was born July 14, 1929, in Doddridge County to the late Amos Edward and Dulcie (Kelly) Nicholson.

Bertie worked as a beautician at Princess Hair Shop in Parkersburg for over 40 years, and owned the business for 15 years. She enjoyed crocheting and passed that hobby down to her daughter. She loved to cook and would collect any good recipe that came her way.

She is survived by one daughter, Diane Ruble (Scott), and one son, Ronald McMillan, both of Parkersburg; two sisters, Betty Shafer of Warner, Ohio, and Nancy Skinner (Wayne) of Mineral Wells; and three brothers, Eugene Nicholson of Weston, W.Va., Milton Nicholson of New Milton, W.Va., and Roy Nicholson (Creola) of New Milton, W.Va.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Beryl W. Ward; one son, Bill Stone; three sisters, Marie Polan, Opal Shafer and Carrie Cumberledge; and three brothers, Charles Nicholson, Denzil Nicholson and Phillip Nicholson.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Kati Davis officiating. Burial will follow the service at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Marietta. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
