Forrest L. ‘Buck’ Elder

Forrest L. “Buck” Elder, 75, of Little Hocking, Ohio, passed away on Jan. 26, 2013, at Camden Clark Medical Center, St. Joseph’s Campus.

“Buck” was born in Cairo, W.Va., on Jan. 1, 1938, a son of the late Harry and Mary McVay Elder.

He had proudly served his country in the Marines, and was a truck driver for over 50 years, working recently with Mystic Hills Trucking.

“Buck” is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jean Vance Elder; daughter, Lois Whipkey and Edward of Parkersburg; stepson, Mark Morris and Frances of Charleston; stepdaughter, Diane Ferrell and Joe of Charleston; grandchildren, James Mercer Jr., Kristina Payne, Angel Buchanan and Whitney Null; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Ester Rosalee Sprouse and Mary Rinehart; brothers, Floyd Elder and Donzel Elder; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, “Buck” was preceded in death by two brothers,Wayne Elder and Glenn Elder.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre, with the Rev. Dr. Tim A. Lindsey officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday and for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Spring Hill Cemetery in Charleston.
