Public hearing set for March 4 on annexation
PARKERSBURG – A public hearing has been set for 9:30 a.m. March 4 before the Wood County Commission on a petition to annex part of Grandview Manor Addition owned by Tri-City Baptist Church.
Assistant City Attorney Rob Tebay and Rickie Yeager, planning administrator for the city, submitted the petition to the commissioners on behalf of the city of Parkersburg. The public hearing will be conducted in the county commission’s offices on the second floor of the courthouse.
“There was no objection to the proposed annexation in the planning commission meeting,” Yeager told county commissioners.
The petition was accepted by the commissioners. The next step will be for the city, as petitioner, to post notice of the upcoming public hearing and notify adjoining property owners.
“It’s a minor boundary adjustment,” said Commissioner Blair Couch. The Tygart District property in question abuts the corporate limits but is outside the city.
The 1.8 acres sought for annexation is in Grandview Manor Addition.
Sixteen property owners were listed as abutting a street or highway in the area sought for annexation.
According to the description provided to the county commission, the area proposed for annexation includes five parcels and 50 feet of Grandview Street.
According to the petition from the city, the drive is not currently in Parkersburg’s corporation limits.
The parcels sought for annexation, according to city officials, are owned by Tri-City Baptist Church. The church’s current property and facility on Grandview Street are within the city corporate limits.
“The church wants this newly acquired property to be annexed into the city’s corporation limits. To ensure these parcels have adequate street frontage in the city, a portion of Grandview Street is also to be annexed,” according to the petition.
City officials said once annexed, the properties would be served by city police and fire, public water, sewer and trash services and the city would then also be responsible for street maintenance.
