Kenneth Merrill “The Hitchman” Walter, 91, of Vincent, Ohio, formerly of Belpre, died Jan. 6, 2013, at the Camden Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus.
He was born in Gallia County, Ohio on Dec. 27, 1921 and was the son of the late Charles Edward and Kathleen Mavourneen Glassburn Walters. He had been a member of the Mullen Memorial Baptist Church. He retired from E. I. DuPont, was a member of the Middleport Masonic Lodge #363 and the Order of Eastern Star #172 in Middleport. He owned and operated The Hitchman in Belpre. He was a WW II Army veteran.
Survivors include his two daughters, Linda J. (Richard “Buzz”) Leonard of Colorado, and Nancy Lee Walter of Vincent. Also suriving are his grandchildren, Eric (Rachael) Leonard, Tony (Marissa) Leonard, Kelly Bloomer Cale, Annie (Josh) Bloomer -Van Laningham, his great grandchildren, Kristen Marie Cale, David (Alex) Cale, Christian Scott Leonard, Logan James Leonard, Emily Paige Leonard, Noah Paul Van Laningham, Elijah Dale VanLaningham, and Levi Matthew Reynolds; two sisters, Kathleen Tuttle and Nellie Ballard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy Jo Burnette Walter in 2003 and nine brothers and sisters.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Mullen Memorial Baptist Church.
