Paul Leon Bungard
Paul Leon Bungard, 86, died Jan. 7, 2013, at his home.
He was born May 27, 1926, at his parents’ home on Grant Hill Road in Wood County, W.Va., a son of the late Raymond A. and Letha V. (McPeek) Bungard.
Paul grew up on the family farm on Stillwell Creek and after returning from World War II bought the farm next to his home place where he and his wife resided until his death. He was a Methodist by faith and attended Stillwell Methodist Church.
Paul was a Navy veteran and served on the Aircraft Carrier Fanshaw Bay in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war he was employed at Union Carbide Metals Alloy Division in Marietta, Ohio, and in 1968 began his career as utility supervisor for West Virginia Department of Highways in District 3.
He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to go trout fishing with his friends and family in the West Virginia mountains. He also enjoyed fishing trips to Canada. Paul was a 50-year plus member of Mount Olivet Lodge #3 AF and AM, and a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies 32nd Degree, Valley of Parkersburg.
Paul is survived by his wife of 63 years, Donna Rosalie “Rose” (Nowery) Bungard; daughter, Connie S. (Jim) Eakle of Davisville; son, Emerson E. (Diana Lynn) Bungard of Davisville; grandson, Adam Paul Dotson of Lewisburg, W.Va.; two sisters, Arlene Reynolds of Davisville and Carol (Ronald) Wine of Davisville; one brother, Lowell M. (Cheryl) Bungard of Davisville; and sister-in-law, Wilda Bungard of Davisville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Earl L. Bungard; and two brothers, Russell L. and Kenneth R. Bungard Sr.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Jim Eakle officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
